Join us for an afternoon of creating organic color patterns using a variety of materials, including fresh and dried locally grown flowers, cochineal, madder root and various extracts.
Guacamole Party: Natural Dye with Food
In this workshop, we explore how the left over bits after cooking have incredible color potential. Participants will learn what edible plants can be used as dye, how to prep fiber for dye, and have a variety of food based dye baths cooking.
Indigo + Shibori
Shibori is a tying resist technique that is one of the oldest indigo techniques from Japan. Using an assortment of objects, participants will learn how to make unique patterns on natural fibers, as well as the beginner level indigo dyeing.

Come join us at the Green Matters studio for a comprehensive education in natural dyes.
This workshop focuses on the plant dyes we use in production. Included will be cochineal, madder root, marigold (grown here in Lancaster PA) logwood, and lac. Learn how to make a dye bath using each of these dyes, and how to develop a rainbow of natural colors by mixing dyes and using mordants.
