Join Green Matters Natural Dye Company & curio. Gallery & Creative Supply as we team up to bring you a workshop full of experimentation and excitement. 

Our day begins with Winona Quigley and the Green Matters team as they guide you in how to use plants to create your own watercolors. Demonstrations will show how to create 5 different lake pigments out of plant based dyes, as well as how to process those pigments into pans made of natural materials. Participants will gain working knowledge as you create your own pigments, mix your own watercolor medium, and how to mull the pigments into ready to use watercolor paint. The result? Your very own palette of handmade paints in the following colors: madder root- red, cutch - sienna, marigold - yellow, marigold/indigo- green, & indigo- blue. 

After a comfortable break for lunch, it’s time to put our new watercolors to the test!

Engage with curio. Gallery & Creative Supply owners Matt Chapman and Nicole Duquette for a Plein-Air painting exercise as we take in the surrounding landscape as our inspiration. Matt will be sharing his thoughts on brush type, saturation of color, and the importance of a considered under-drawing as he leads a group demonstration on building an organized but expressive watercolor painting. Matt will also be available for individual questions and instruction as you explore your palette of colors in this relaxing afternoon session. Materials such as brushes, and paper will be supplied for each workshop participant. 

This full day course will take place at Green Matters Natural Dye Company, located in eastern Lancaster County. All materials will be provided, just bring yourself!

We are limiting the workshop to 20 participants. This event will take place on 5/18/24 at our Lancaster County studio from 11 am - 4 pm.

General admission is $115; General Admission + Lunch is $135. If you are opting for a lunch ticket, please reach out to our team if you have any dietary restrictions or needs.

• 3 brushes

• two sheets of 9x12 watercolor paper (one hotpress, one coldpress)

• 1 curio pencil

• travel watercolor tray

• all materials needed for making watercolors
